Cooper Restaurants, a division of the Cooper Group of Companies was founded by brothers David J. Cooper Sr. and Angus R. Cooper, II. The company began with a Ruth's Chris Steak House franchise in Mobile, Alabama. The franchise was set to close in the late 1990s but was the favorite restaurant of the Cooper family.
David Cooper Sr. traveled to New Orleans, to speak with Ruth's Chris founder, Ruth Fertel to try to persuade Fertel to not close, his favorite restaurant. Mrs. Fertel could not be swayed. Before leaving the meeting Fertel did agree to allow the restaurant to stay open and thus began Cooper Restaurants with a franchisee of Ruth's Chris Steak House.
The company also includes two restaurants that were founded by The Cooper family. Each restaurant is unique and different but they all have one thing in common: to create a memorable guest experience.
